My lathe is done minus paint. The base is 46 inches long. It's built with one sheet of 3/4x4x8 plywood. The workspace clearance is 14 inches (width) by 38 inches (length).
Instead of going with belt driven, I opted to go with direct drive. I scraped my old circular saw for it's 2.3hp electric motor. However, I'm still in the market for a better motor (a little less hp too) due to vibration. I had extra space in the head stock so I added a small drawer.
On top of the head stock I made a phone holder so i can see it if it rings. I'll be upgrading the switch soon to a more appropriate safety switch.
