Riving knife for the axminster tablesaw

Post by lightmooner » Fri Dec 06, 2024 12:36 pm

Hello, sorry for the third post for this tablesaw.

i ordered it, and can't wait to receive the saw ! i've seen couples videos / forum post, and some people complain about two things about the riving knife:
- it's impossible to set the height of the riving knife lower than the blade ( issue for dado's )
- the thickness of the riving knife is as thick as the kerf of some thin blades ( like the cmt you own ).

it seems that you don't have those issues from what i could see in your videos, you seems to be able to use the 2.4mm kerf blade of CMT, and i own the same. After asking the Axminster support, they mentionned this : "The thickness of the riving knife on this saw is 2.5mm wide so a 2.4mm kerf blade is very close and may catch on the riving knife as you go through the cut, ideally you want the blade to be wide than the riving knife".

Did you do any modification to the riving knife in order to use the cmt blades? How did you manage to set the riving knife lower than the top of the blade in your video ? the only mention i could find regarding kerf/thickness of blades/riving knife, is when you mention that this saw allow thicker blades, which are more stable.

Thanks again !

hi lightmooner, whenever you use a Dado blade you should remove the riving knife, even if it is lower than the dado blade.

Another drawback of the Axmister saw is that it is a bit complicated to remove and place the riving knife, but all saws have advantages and disadvantages.

In my case I have bought the same riving knife as the one from my other Dewalt saw, and it is perfect for use on the Axmister saw. This knife is slightly thinner (2,3mm) than the CMT blades (2,4mm). Right, it should be even a little thinner, but in my case it works fine.
