Miter channel vs slide

Post by Justme » Fri Jun 23, 2017 1:35 pm

Hi,

I am new to this forum (from South Africa). I have purchased plans for the portable workshoip and is busy collecting buying all hardware. This will take some time (budget constraints).

My question relates to the lengths of the channel vs slider. Are they to be equal in length, or can a slider length differ i.e. to what extent?

hi Wieger,

the slider should be shorter, here you will find the measures:

Hi Suso,

Using conversion tables to convert 32 inch to mm , I get a value of 812.8.
According to your plans the table uses all round a length of 815 mm.
Also in your Portable Workshop Fasteners list you list the miter channel as being 815 mm.

Your view?

Do I stick to overall lengths of 815? Miter length less of 1.2 mm not material?

hi Justme!
you will not have problems, it's only 2 millimeters of difference ... one for each side!

are you going to start with the Portable Workshop?

Hi Suso,

Thank you...still buying all the hardware, getting there slowly but surely.

My questions relate to planning, I have a couple of ideas / changes I am investigating.

I have also deduced that I need to buy all three the machines first before starting my build. Bought a Trition TRA001 saw, Looking at buying a Triton TRA001 router and lastly a Bosh Professional jigsaw (GST 150 CE).

Will keep you posted

hi Wieger,
If you can choose, it is better to have the option to adjust the slider!
Keep in mind that in the first one you must slide the sled/miter gauge completely before you can remove it.
