Which circular saw blade?

Post by Adam751 » Wed Jun 20, 2018 3:46 pm

Hi,

I mainly want to work with hardwood and birch plywood, and would like to purchase a good quality general purpose blade for that.
Which one of these two do you think will be better? (I have the same Makita as you – the 5903r).
I don't mind the thicker blades, as they'll probably be more stale. But what about material and longevity? Are TCT blades the best? (Can't find any info about the DeWalt blade material... is this a bad thing?)
How about the saw tooth angle? Does this make a difference if it is 10 or 15 degrees?
How about anti-stick coating (the "orange" stuff from CMT)? Is this marketing? Or does it improve things?

Here's a selection of what I could find online...

Does a 250mm diameter fit on the Makite 5903r? And is it safe to operate? (I thought there's a max diameter and max rpm??)

The one in the picture has 250mm. In your description the reference is 271.235.36M (235mm).
Would the 250mm fit on a Makita 5903r saw?

This is what I can find in the UK:

you can not use more than 235mm with that circular. You must buy the one with reference 271.235.36M.
The one you have linked seems the same but with a different look, will be perfect!

I think the picture in the Amazon link is wrong. On the blade, it says "251.040.07" with 40 Teeth.
The description/title says "271.235.36".

I'm a bit concerned about the thin 1.7mm kerf. Isn't a wider (2-3mm) kerf better in terms of heat/warp/precision/longevity?
I don't mind the extra 1mm waste in material if it gives me a better blade...

Thanks for all your answers!!

if you are goind to use it with a hand circular saw and to cut hard plywood, I recommend you buy a disk of these thin. Not because of the waste of material, because your circular saw will cut these hard materials much easier, faster and more straight. Keep in mind that a hand circular saw is not a table saw!

The correct would be to have two, one of these thin disks and another a little thicker and with more teeth for materials such as melamine boards.

Thanks again for your help – the CMT 235mm blade arrived today and I'll give it a try later this weekend.

I found another DeWalt one, for 190mm:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/DT10304-QZ-24- ... 00DI8RASG/

Looking at the picture and the diagram on the actual blade:
Why does it say "don't use with splitter"? Is it because it's 1.65mm thin and most splitters are wider than that?

I'm sure you're going to be satisfied with that saw blade!
You're right, it's because of the thickness of the splitter. What I did is remove the splitter from my circular saw and copy it onto another thinner metal plate of equal thickness to the new blade. That way you will have two splitters and you can change it when necessary.

I used Bosch 2608644272 TCT Wood Circular Saw Blade and this is the best saw blade in my opinion.
