Mr Paoson
The vice spec'd in the plans do not match the vice you used in the videos. I have 2 questions:
1) Can you specify what vice(s) match the parts Vice1-Vice3 in the plans?
2) Can you provide then cut list used for the the vice from the videos?
Thanks in advance
Tony

Re: Modular Workbench & Mobile Tool Stand
hi tanzelmo,
the vise that I used in the videos is quite expensive and difficult to find in Europe, that's why I used a more common one in the plans. It's this vise. There are several similar vises on the market, if you use another one, check the measurements.
This is the vise I used in the videos, it is the 14 inch version. The vise comes with the mounting specifications, it depends on the type of worktop you use and other things that I no longer remember!

Mr Paoson
I’m trying to determine the thickness of my bench top. I will be laminating ash “planks” into a top. I was originally planning on a 2” top (50mm). Yours is 38mm I believe.
However a web search seems to indicate that 3” is necessary (for bench dogs, holdfasts etc.). That seems excessively thick not to mention expensive.
Can you advise? What is an adequate thickness?
Thanks!
Tony

A few questions regarding the bench-top
Hi!
I'm currently building my modular workbench based on your plans and reached the point of adding the bench-top. I have two questions please:
1. I noticed that the holes layout is not standard. Is there any reason for not using MFT layout for instance? I found many MFT hole drilling jigs online that can make precision drilling easier, but I haven't figures a way to drill precisely the holes in your proposed layout.
2. I read your recommendations for board types and figured I will go with the 38mm beech board. However, they come here in France most often in 36mm thickness as kitchen countertop standard. Is there any issue with going 2mm lower?
Thanks a lot!
Tom.

hi Tom,
you can make the holes with the MFT layout system, I didn't do it because I wasn't going to use that system. You won't have any problems using 36mm thickness beech board. What I don't know is the recommended thickness to use the MFT layout system, be careful with that!

Thank you Suso!
I read that for the MFT the table top should not be over 20mm, ideally 18mm, so I won't be able to use their clamps, for instance. That's OK for me, I only look for an easy way to drill the holes precisely so I thought the MFT jig will be of help.
I will go with the 36mm beech board and your custom-made clamps. Thanks again!!
