Outstanding functional workbench. I am moving my workshop to a new detached building and will take tips from your design for my new bench. Unfortunately I have to use different dimensions for my workshop, but the main design concept is superb!

Hi,

I already have these plans as from may 2019 and finaly started with the build of these fantastic looking workbench!
What I found difficult is finding the correct items as screw, inserts, bolts,... and sometimes can't find the correct measurements on the plans.

as now I'm looking for the measurements from the holes that have to be drilled in the frame for the threaded inserts (M10)

Image

who can help me and knows where to find them.

thanks and kind regards,
Erik

hello Erik,
you will find the position of those holes following this path: "Plywood Workbench Metric/PDF Plans/Plywood Workbench" scrolling down on Pdf sheets 14 and 15.

Regarding the fasteners, you will find everything you need in the Pdf file "Plywood Workbench Fasteners" that you'll find insithe the folder called "Cutting List". You can click on the hardware names to find out where to buy them.

Let me know if you still have problems...

I really like this design, both in its conception and execution. I've purchased the plans and intend to build this, or some variant of it, partly because of the increased functionality this one gives, but mostly because of the intelligent storage features. I've looked at a lot of the user builds and these clearly work, but was wondering how stiff the bench is along its length. With a weight of 220 kg before it's even loaded, the bench depends on the two three-ply face frames (for lack of a better term) to supply all of its bending resistance. Has anyone seen any appreciable sag in their bench over time or experienced any flex when working on them?

Also, I noticed in the videos that only a few joints seem to be assembled with any glue. Is this actually so, or is the application of glue edited out of the video for brevity?

None of this is intended as criticism, just wondering…
Thanks.

hello Chaindriver,
I've used glue in all the and mortise - tenon joints.
I've also installed two more wheels, one in the center of each frame. It will only be necessary if you are going to load it with a lot of weight.
Here you'll find all the improvements that I've made:

I purchased the plans and the directions seem to leave a lot to the makers imagination! For example while building the middle support (pieces 11, 12, and 13) there is nothing to tell you how to line up 13. Unless the dimensions are wrong in the cut list I don't see how this will work.

Good plans should describe exactly how pieces get assembled instead of leaving it to the makes imagination...

hello Marty,
I'm so sorry that you are having problems with the plans. It is a very large project with a lot of pieces and details...
have you read all the instructions and watched all the videos? in the first article I explained how to glue those pieces:
"I cut a piece that will act as a jig to help me position the parts. I apply glue and use an air nailer so that the pieces won’t move while I tighten the clamps. We could also use that trick where you sprinkle sea salt on the glue"

and here in the video you can see it clearly:
