Time flies by... so at least one quick picture of the bench. It will probably get some drawers and a twin as soon as I've moved from my current room (only 3.5 x 2.7 meters) to a much bigger (around 25 m2). The gear vice you presented is much too expensive (nevertheless good for YT as being very impressive ). I've put in a slightly big standard vice giving me the opportunity to cover the complete 60 cm.

I'm thinking about mixing some of your projects. I'd like to make 4 modules of equal size that can be combined like your modular workbench. They would be a table saw module, router table module, reverse jig saw module and a drill press module (with wabeco drill stand). By moving and coupling the modules, this should give endless possibilities. The one thing I'm struggling with is how to connect the modules in a fast and simple way. It should be possible to change in a couple of minutes, preferably without tools.
What do you think about the idea?

I like the idea, it is even something I thought about a long time ago. The most difficult thing will be to solve the problem you mention, how to connect the modules in a quickly and comfortably way.
The system of my modular workbench is quite effective to connect two modules, but it is a bit complicated to connect four. I hope you find a quick and effective method, I wish I could see it!

I really like the finish on your project. What is your sanding routine and finish product? Is that General Finishes High performance Gloss?

I have the plans, thank you. Baltic birch purchased, we only have 5x5 sheets here. Quite a tidy sum for the wood, hehe. I will be starting my bench in a couple days.

Anyone know how much the Twin Turbo vise adds to the end of the bench including the handle? I would really like to build 2 of them at 2'x5' but I may have to shrink the length down to accommodate the vise. Trying to maximize the work surface and minimize the bumping into it and other things as I walk by it. I didn't see any dimensions or specs on the in-kleind website.

it depends on the thickness of the wooden jaw, in my case I have tried to make the jaw as thin as possible and adds a total of 150mm.

I'm trying to solve a similar problem. Most of the time the benches will be lined up next to each other against the wall and attached end to end. When needed I'd like to roll them out to the middle of my space and create a larger assembly area etc. I'll also be using one for a router table module.

So far here's the best solution I've come up with... it's a knock down connector (think IKEA flat pack furniture but more robust). This way I can connect side to side as well as back to back. They are removable and they can mostly be hidden. They also tighten using a hex bit, so a tool is needed, but can be a hand tool if needed. They are also reasonable on cost, so if needed I could add a couple per face. There are different options to this solution that could create more torque, but most I could find would require a lot of time to assemble and disassemble.

I'm about mid-way through the build (all four at once!). I'll let you all know how it works.

Finalizing my design here and had another question. Were the dog holes on the vertical center smaller just because they fit better in the space available?
