Today I started building the first of the folding tables I'll install on my new mobile workbench. This table will allow me to cut longer pieces and obtain a bigger work surface:

Today I finished the frame for the folding table of my new mobile workbench. It seems to work fine!

I'm almost done making the folding table for my new workbench. Here is a small video to show you how it works!

I was wondering why you didn't use those miter bars that can be locked into the miter track.
Wouldn't that resolve the need for support of the fence by the top drawer?

Or would it be too unsteady to use?

Like I said, just wondering, it's no criticism regarding your design ;)

with the sliding carriage fully open I think it is too much unsupported length to use that kind of miter bars. The carriage would not slide smoothly and could not support heavy pieces!

That's something I haven't thought about yet... however, you can always use miter bars instead of hardwood sliders combined with the support of the top drawer... that ways you know the carriage cannot tilt in any way and you can still cut heavy pieces. Might be worth the try... :)

I've edited this small summary of my latest video to show off the main features of the side folding table, combined with the sliding carriage of my new workbench:

Hi Suso!
I was just wondering how tight of clearance you recommend for the steel pipe used to make the hinge? I’d gotten some steel pipe that is 3/8 for an inner diameter which is closer to 9.5 mm. That leaves a little room for wiggle for the M8 bolt. Is it important for calibrating the table that the folding hinge have zero play or wiggle with using an inner diameter of exactly 8mm? Thanks!

hi BodieM,
I think you won't have any problems with that pipe.
