The closest router that I have been able to find is the Dewalt DWP611 and Porter-Cable 450 routers. Leaning towards the Dewalt DWP611. Has anyone used either of these and are there any comments about either.

I'm looking at the Metabo GE 710 compact die grinder...the collar is listed at 1 11/16" which equals 43mm. 1/4" collet (same as a router), variable speed, 6.4 amp motor...around $200 from Amazon.

Let me know how that goes as it sounds pretty good. I am still in the process of looking for all the parts and figuring out the cost. Don't really have room for it at the present time, but am thinking about building an external shop mainly for wood working.

Same for me..I've been contemplating this since I first saw this machine in one of Paoson's videos.

as I never tried one of those I can't say if it would do the job. Please let me know if you try it, I am kind of curious about that Metabo tool.

Hi Im up in Canada and I have a similar problem like my neighbors in the south.
to compound my problem Canada tends to be 110 volts.
can the 3D router be adapted to accommodate a standard 3.5 in router base which is common in North America?
I really want the machine if I can get it to accommodate our materials

hi Jonh,
you can use a router of those, and you can do it this way:



Keep in mind a couple of things, if the router is heavier, you may need a harder spring.
As the router seems to have more diameter, perhaps the center of the router is not the same as in the plans, you may need to modify some parts, such as the followers.
