I am starting my 3d router build.
I love working with metric, even tho i'm in the states, i like the accuracy so much better.

One of the things I am contemplating is using linear bearings and rods for the X and Y axis.
Does anybody see a problem with that ?

Also, I watch all the videos on Youtube regarding the build. I noticed the builder would drill a pilot hole, countersink, then add a dowel.
Wondering what the purpose of the dowel ??

Also, no glue was used, is that in case a disassemble would be necessary IE: bearing upgrades.

One last item: I plan to use a Dewalt laminate router on mine (no drill).
Would I be better served to use an aluminum plate (3/8" thick) for the router collar ?
Or just use two pieces of plywood thickness ??

Hi Dave,

You can use that linear bearings, it will be perfect. Here is an example of another user who has used them.

I've used dowels to reinforce the joints, but they really aren't necessary. Indeed, I've not used glue to be able to disassemble damaged parts.

You can use aluminum or plywood for the collet, both methods are good.
