3D Router Bearing Upgrade

Post by Suso » Tue Oct 11, 2016 7:33 am

After one year of use, it's time to perform maintenance on my 3D Router. I'm going to focus on the bearings and the aluminium profiles. As I said back in the day, aluminium wasn't the wisest choice. Some grooves have appeared because the bearings are made of a harder material.

Hi.. thanks for sharing your work and knowledge.

I'm thinking to buy the 3D router project plans which is very useful tool.
Can you please advise if plans contain also the last update with the new bearings?

Hi Phil,
I'm not planning to update the plans of the 3D Router because as you can see in the video, hardly any modifications are necessary and both systems are good if made correctly and with the right parts. You only need to separate the bearings 6mm on axis Y and X, and lower the Z axis part another 6mm as seen in the video.

sorry for the inconveniences.

hello from Russia, than sorry for my english.
I find very cheap V Groove bearings in aliexpress , 22$ for 20 pieces. But i newbie, what do you think about this bearings ? Can i use it for this project ?
Do I understand correctly that the main thing is the inner diameter?

hi Konstantin!
I do not recommend you to use these bearings, they have very little channel depth.
Better go with the RM2-2RS 3/8 V
"inner diameter" is the diameter of the hole...
let me know if you still have problems.

hola Javi,
