Is the plan strong enough to support a 1/4" plate steel top? The plate weighs about 300 lb total.
What steps would you recommend to make the table stronger?

I wanted an extra 1/4 on top so I didn't have to route out more than half of the plywood. Couldn't find tracks less than 1/2 depth

Thank you for the quick reply! Since I've already got the metal and the t-track I'd still be curious to know what you think of ways to make the cabinet more heavy duty. And of course I understand that there's no guarantees

I think that if you reinforce the bottom of the lid with a couple of "L shaped" steel it will work!
